Fair Trade Fundraiser 25,000,000 farmers worldwide make their livelihood growing coffee. Most of these growers farm small plots under 10 acres. The great majority are tribal or indigenous peoples, who do not possess the necessary skills to represent themselves adequately in the global marketplace. For every cup of coffee that you buy for $1.50, the farmer gets less than a penny. Not only that, but it costs the farmer more than a penny to grow the beans for that cup of coffee so they are usually poorer than when they started. Use the issue of Fair Trade as a great Service and Justice element for your comprehensive youth ministry. As an added benefit you can use Fair Trade coffee as a fundraiser for your program, NCYC or World Youth Day trip. It's great timing too because October is Fair Trade Month. For more information about the justice initiative or details about how to use Fair Trade Coffee as a fundraiser contact: dean@earthfriendlycoffee.com or call 323-319-3494.
